Download & Install Guide

AutoMobile Validator and AutoMobile 1.1

December, 2007

To use AutoMobile, you need:

1.       OBD Bluetooth interface device. The interface must be plugged into an OBD outlet, located in your car somewhere under the dashboard or around the driver seat.

2.       Mobile phone that has Java and Bluetooth connectivity. Most recent cell phones, made in 2005 or later, should have the necessary Java and Bluetooth. Please see Compatible Mobile Phones for more information.

Installation

1.      Downloading from Internet to the computer. You can download the AutoMobile Validator file (Validator.jar) to your computer from:

                        www.auto-mobile.ca/amv/Validator.jar

2.      Transferring from a computer to the cell phone. First, the Validator (or the AutoMobile) file must be stored on the computer. Transferring files from the computer to the cell phone depends on the phone manufacturer. Most phones come with computer software to handle the transfer between the computer and the phone. Usually, you use the USB cable connection or Bluetooth wireless connection to transfer the files from a computer to a cell phone.

If the cell phone has the necessary Java, it will automatically identify a .jar file (Validator.jar or AutoMobile.jar) as a Java application and will install it after you press Open/Install and Yes/Accept.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The files with .jar extentions (Validator.jar or AutoMobile.jar) are Java archive files but they may also be recognized on your computer as zipped files. They should not be unzipped, extracted or opened in any way on the computer. They should be transfered to the cell phone unchanged, including the .jar extention.

Bluetooth transfer Tip:

On the computer side, you usually need a Bluetooth dongle plugged into USB and some software (for example BlueSoleil) that works with the dongle. This allows you to pair up the computer with the cell phone via Bluetooth. To initialize the transfer, use the Bluetooth software installed on the computer.

For NOKIA and SONYERICSSON phones, use Bluetooth File Transfer service to transfer files.

On MOTOROLA phones, the Bluetooth File Transfer service is not available for the Java application file (.jar), so instead, you have to use Bluetooth Object Push service to transfer the file.
